Ben Garnett founded Profile Coffee Company in 2015 at the age of 14. He started working part-time washing up cups in his local coffee shop when he was just 13. His passion for coffee began when a barista came in to train up the staff. Once he began to learn what good coffee really was, he wanted to learn more and more about it. Over the next year his passion took him all the way to becoming Europe’s youngest ever professionally accredited barista by the Speciality Coffee Association of Europe (SCAE)As well as running Profile Coffee Company Ben is now working on his coffee diploma (and his schoolwork when he has time).
Profile Coffee Company was founded at Ben's school’s Summer Fete in 2015. His school had a partnership with a school in Malawi, one of the poorest countries in the world. He thought he could combine his growing passion for coffee with helping to raise funds for local farmers in Malawi. He spent all his savings on a small roaster and some coffee beans from Malawi, and roasted 60 bags of coffee in a week (with some late nights). The reaction was overwhelming with all of the coffee being sold in just a few hours, and many people commenting how amazing they thought the coffee tasted. Encouraged by this positive start, he decided to continue with the company and started roasting and selling a wider range of coffees. He has gradually grown his list of customers and also supplies some local coffee shops. He also started to share his passion for coffee with educational events and master classes, allowing people to learn more about coffee and sample lots of different varieties.
